Our top tips and advice for #WorldEnvironmentDay

Choose a plant-based diet

The major sources of air pollution from agriculture include livestock, which produces methane and ammonia, rice paddies, which produce methane, and the burning of agricultural waste. Methane emissions contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone, which causes asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Methane is also a more potent global warming gas than carbon dioxide – its impact is 34 times greater over a 100-year period. Around 24 percent of all greenhouse gases emitted worldwide come agriculture, forestry and other land-use. https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/what-causes-air-pollution

There are many ways to reduce air pollution from agriculture. People can move to a plant-based diet and/or reduce food waste, while farmers can reduce methane from livestock by optimizing feed digestibility and improving grazing and grassland management.

Plant Based Diet

Even if you just make a #meatfreemonday, reducing the amount of meat you eat can contribute to the world we live in.

Whilst you’re eating plant-based – choose organic

Why do we love organic within our business? Did you know that over 16,500 tonnes of pesticide were sprayed over crops in the UK in 2016 to kill insects and control crop disease? And we wonder why our bee population is devastated!

We wonder why our health is deteriorating, yet in 2017 government tests found that pesticide residues were in 47% of British food.

By choosing organic food and skincare, you can simply reduce your exposure to pesticide residue. In addition, organic plants have been tested and are shown to be higher in phytonutrients which nourish you at a cellular level improving your health and fighting toxins.

Pesticides don’t just kill pests. They affect the wildlife and disrupt our ecosystem.  We think that potentially there is a lack of awareness that over 300 pesticides are used in non-organic farming methods. Organic farming does not permit the use of any synthetic pesticides and herbicides such as Glyphosate which has been linked to cancer and is now banned.

If all farming in the UK was organic the use of pesticides would reduce by 98%! Wildlife thrives on organic land and farms and as humans we thrive as well.

Ditch the wipes

We all know that facewipes are bad for the environment, but in recent months and weeks the war against them has truly started! Wet wipes and face wipes are devastating our rivers and causing irreversible damage to our environment.

Did you know? In the UK, we flush some 9.3 million wet wipes. Every day. Will you say goodbye to wet wipes?

The likes of Body Shop have committed to discontinuing face wipes, and Caroline Hirons has told you all that they are just bad for your skin anyway!

Choose a more sustainable option like a cleansing balm which can be removed with a flannel or cloth. Our 100ml size cleanser comes with a FREE cloth you can use, and it is a real treat for the skin.

Pick up some rubbish

Whether it is taking part in a beach clean, or just picking up and recycling a plastic bottle in the street – if we all just took 2 minutes out of our day to pick up some rubbish, the world would be a cleaner and better place.

You can find your nearest beach clean via the Cleaner Seas website here https://www.sas.org.uk/our-work/beach-cleans/ or why not organise your own #MiniBeachClean! Find out more here https://www.sas.org.uk/our-work/beach-cleans/mini-beach-cleans/

Stop buying plastic water bottles

More than eight million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans every year, harming marine life which has been so shockingly shown in David Attenborough’s Blue Planet Series.

Get yourself a reusable water bottle (we love Chilly’s) and stop buying a single use bottle. It is good for the planet and good for you.
