Love sports? There’s one organic herb that we use that can help anyone who loves sports and physical activities including tennis, golf, walking, running, cycling and gardening…

It’s the time of year when even the staunchest couch potato is tempted to indulge in a little sporting action -- as Wimbledon brings the finest tennis stars in the world to the UK and the world watches the drama of the Tour de France it’s hard to be uninspired.

For those who love sports, or those who are trying something for the first time, there is one botanical that can bring you a host of benefits. Whether you are preparing your body for exercise, soothing aches and pains after enjoying an activity, or even boosting your muscle memory to hugely improve your performance and rate of improvement, rosemary, it seems is something of a super herb.

Rosemary

RELIEVES ACHES AND PAINS

Rosemary has been used for centuries in salves and balms to help relieve aches and pains. Today we know that the botanical has anti-inflammatory properties and can act as an analgesic reducing pain.

BOOSTS CIRCULATION

Another effect of rosemary is that is improves circulation. Rubbing a little rosemary balm or oil into your muscles before your take part in a game or sports activity, therefore, means that not only do you have an anti-inflammatory to help reduce aches and pains afterwards, but the improved blood flow, which delivers oxygen to muscles means that you can push yourself a little harder.

IMPROVES MUSCLE MEMORY

Recent research at Northumbria University has supported the centuries old link between Rosemary and memory function. Studies revealed a 5 to 7 per cent improvement in the memory performance of students who simply inhaled the scent of rosemary.  Check out our blog on how Rosemary can help you reduce exam stress! What is also interesting is that muscle memory, where repeating a particular movement over and over means we need to spend less time thinking about it, and therefore get better and better at it. Muscle memory is very important for athletes who want to improve performance, and breathing in the scent of the rosemary as you practise will boost your memory function. There’s no hard studies on this yet, but it’s highly likely, the rosemary will help you to develop muscle memory and improve performance more quickly.
