Whether you’re naturally sporty or you are feeling inspired by the opening of the Rio 2016 Olympics this weekend, here are some skincare tips to keep your skin healthy and moisturised when you exercise.

1. DON’T FORGET THE WATER

Our motto is simply that healthy skin is beautiful skin, and healthy skin needs to be hydrated. The best way to achieve this is to drink enough water, especially if you are sweating a lot.

2. SHOWER POWER

Sweat can clog your pores, and if you have been swimming, the chlorine isn’t great for your skin either, so a quick shower after exercise cleanses the skin very simply. Massaging some of our organic face and body oils into your skin while it is still damp will keep your skin beautifully balanced, hydrated and soft, try our Tone and Firm Body Oil.

3. HAVE A PRE-WORKOUT RUB DOWN

If you love endurance sports, running, walking or enthusiastic gym workouts, you can prevent pain and swelling by applying Soothing Muscle Balm before a workout. This balm contains rosemary which stimulates blood circulation and reduces swelling whilst German chamomile, calendula and lavender calm and soothe the skin. It’s also great to rub on after a post workout shower. Olympic GB Windsurfer Izzy Hamilton loves using this balm as a massage oil to relieve any aches and pains.

4. FIRST AID FOR TURF BURN OR ATHLETES FOOT

Some of the botanicals we use in our balms are great for several different conditions, meaning you don’t need a full first aid kit with you — helpful if you are running or walking longer distances. Abrasions such as turf burn, chafing and even athletes foot can be treated with our Sore Skin Relief Balm. It contains active ingredients of propolis, calendula and thyme to help repair stressed skin and it can also relieve skin conditions including psoriasis, acne and fungal infections such as athlete's foot.

5. PACK A POST-WORKOUT TREAT

If exercise is a regular part of your life it’s so easy to skip moisturising after exercise and a shower, but this will really dry out your skin especially if it is a routine repeated often. Try our Made For Body Discovery Set (£28) which has little 10ml bottles and tins of body oils and balms for different parts of the body — easy to fit in your gym bag and a nice calorie-free treat reward post-workout.
