Christmas may be over, but for Orthodox Christians in Greece, Russia and eastern Europe, the Epiphany, or the coming of the Three Kings is celebrated on January 19th.

Scholars tell us that the Magi, or three wise men did not arrive bearing their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh until well after Jesus was born. This is why in many countries, this event which is known as Epiphany, is celebrated after Christmas Day. No one is quite sure when the three wise men arrived, but one fact that the Bible is clear upon, is the gifts they brought: gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Frankincense was valued then and it still is today for its wonderful anti-ageing properties. Known as the ‘king’ of oils', the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin. This ancient knowledge contributes to the modern uses of frankincense today, combined with modern studies which reveal that frankincense supports healthy cellular function and can help to rejuvenate the skin.

The fragrance of frankincense promotes feelings of peace, relaxation and a sense of wellbeing and some believe it enhances your intuition. We use organically and ethically produced frankincense from fair trade suppliers in the Focus and Clarity blend in our Mindful Moments set, along with vetiver and bergamot.
